Having Nothing To Wear? Fix The Problem

by Jenny

Do you know that feeling of standing in front of a stuffed closet and still thinking you have nothing to wear?

Of course, you do!

I know that many of you feel the same and I also felt the same for decades of my life.

But why do we feel like that and how can we build such a wardrobe that we finally stop feeling we have nothing to wear?

After years of spending money and searching and breaking my head over it, I finally managed to figure out what mistake I was doing and why I had nothing to wear despite all the money I was spending on shopping.

THE BIGGEST MISTAKE WE DO WHEN WE SHOP

So, back at that time when I was shopping, I hardly took a glance at simple black, white, or even beige items, because I thought they were too common and therefore, too boring!

I was always looking for extravagant, extraordinary, uncommon pieces or pieces with rare colors and unusual patterns!

I guess that was my way to feel unique and different.

Well, though that has some truth in it, can you guess what my problem was?

Yeap, that’s right:

Standing in front of a closet and not having what to wear!!

Because how many times can you wear that super cute sexy polka dot tulle top without your colleagues noticing it?!

Not that many!

On the other hand, how many times can you wear that basic black knit dress – at which you didn’t even want to give a second look when you first saw it at the store- without anybody noticing the frequency?

Practically, forever!

But if the problem is that we pick out the wrong pieces when we shop, then what can we do to change our habits and buy wiser?

How can we build such a wardrobe that we finally stop feeling we have nothing to wear?

THE 5 SECRETS THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR SHOPPING HABITS AND WILL SOLVE “THE NOTHING TO WEAR” PROBLEM

There are 5 little secrets, which if you follow, your everyday life will become much easier because you will be able to mix and match absolutely everything.

Moreover, it’s the only way to build your wardrobe and feel that you finally have options and clothes to wear.

THE 5 SECRETS THAT SOLVE THE NOTHING TO WEAR PROBLEM

  1. Always buy pieces that belong to the same chromatic palette, such as black, white, beige, camel, grey, or even blue. Find your palette and what looks best on you and your skin tone and stick to it.
  2. Make it your priority to first buy staples and then uncommon items. Stick to what works. Don’t be afraid to stock up on staples and basic items.
  3. Avoid patterns and rare colors. They are not easily mixed and matched and they usually end up forgotten on the back of your closet.
  4. If you don’t wear it again and again, it does not justify the money spent on buying it.
  5. Opt for quality pieces, not too overpriced, not the cheapest ones. In order to build your wardrobe, you need pieces that will last for years and can be worn again and again without getting easily worn out. It’s not wise to have to buy the same staples continuously because the previous ones got worn out after some washes. (I would also like my husband to read this! )

Nowadays when I shop, I always keep these rules in mind and I have managed to do a 180% turn regarding my shopping habits.

Now I rarely buy uncommon patterns or strange colors anymore.

I stick to black, white, beige, camel, grey and blue, and guess what…

My problem is solved!

Now in my closet, everything goes with everything, even when I run late and pick out pieces randomly.

So, lesson learned… Don’t make your life complicated. Keep it simple.

HOW TO BUY LESS BUT WISER AND SAVE MONEY

Remember rule no. 4?

If you don’t wear it again and again, it does not justify the money spent on buying it.

If you follow me on Instagram then you will probably have seen that I don’t buy too much.

I prefer pieces that build a capsule wardrobe and I also leverage old pieces by wearing them again and again in different ways.

That is for me the meaning and the purpose of buying a piece of clothing: To wear it again and again.

If that doesn’t happen then it was probably a not-so-well-targeted buy.

If you keep that in mind, you will buy less, but wiser and you will save money in the long run.

It’s really simple.

THE MOST ESSENTIAL STAPLE YOU SHOULD STOCK IN YOUR CLOSET

Speaking of simplicity, there is nothing more essential and well-qualified to make your everyday life easier than the black dress.

I can’t imagine an easier way to make you instantly ready to go.

Don’t be afraid to stock up on black dresses with different lengths and styles.

On the two lists below I’ve put together ideas for some basic and some not-so-basic black dresses. 🙂

I could buy all of these basic black dresses because they are all so different from one another and they serve different purposes and occasions.

Cut-out dresses are such a trend right now and I really like how quietly sexy they are imposed.

Special mention to the bag I am wearing for the last few weeks, which is my new obsession.

It is handmade from Individual Art Leather.

I love its color, which reminds me of wine but in a more vivid tone, and the thick silver chain, which makes a great accessory and gives an edge to my looks.

Very nice article Jenny. To the point. Every time I stick to the pattern black Grey white and sometimes blue I was very satisfied with my orders. When I was trying to make the difference I was very disappointed at the end. To avoid mix and match if I am not sure I use to buy dresses… 😘 Thanks for advices.
